April 21, 2015: Over the past several weeks, Didit tested 886 websites in a variety of different business categories (a complete list of these categories is available below). Our aim was to map how today’s changes to Google’s mobile search algorithm will affect different industries, large and small.
Mobile-Friendliness (all sampled sectors)
535 (60 percent) of the sampled sites passed Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test; 351 failed. While our sample size was small relative to the size of the Web itself, this overall pass rate is consistent with other estimates that have pegged global mobile-friendliness at roughly 60 percent.
Sector-by-sector performance on the Mobile-Friendly Test
Sectors beating the 60 percent average include consumer brand sites, S&P 100 companies, NYC-based ad agencies, social media influencers, and large U.S. charity sites. All other sampled sectors performed at or below the 60 percent benchmark. All of the Didit’s tests were performed prior to “mobilegeddon” (4/21/2015); in the next several weeks, Didit will continue to sample failed sites and report on any progress being made toward mobile-friendliness in the sampled sector.
