February 10, 2016: Public relations agencies have almost universally hopped on the digital bandwagon, with many taking a “digital-first” approach to influence-building (in fact “digital PR” is becoming a service category in its own right with many firms). At the same time, however, it’s clear that many of the websites — the actual digital homes – of these agencies could use improvement. For example, when Didit tested the sites of 100 major agencies last year (as ranked by ODwyer.com), it found that only 57.3 percent were “mobile friendly” according to Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test.
Today, we take a different view of PR agency site performance from the standpoint of website speed — both mobile and desktop — as evaluated by Google’s Page Speed Insights tool. In addition to speed benchmarking, Google’s test also includes a “Mobile UX” (usability) metric that’s designed to serve as a proxy for user satisfaction on these devices; we include it as well.
Which PR agency site provided the fastest experience? The slowest? Which provided the best consumer experience? The worst? Let’s go to right to the data — courtesy of Google. Page Speed Insights tool. (Note: all tests were run on the afternoon of January 28, 2016).
