LinkedIn is a social network that, unlike Twitter and Facebook, was built from the ground up with business networking in mind. If you’re just getting started on LinkedIn, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by all of the service’s useful features and capabilities, so here are some basic questions about LinkedIn that I’m often asked, along with answers.
Question: What’s the best time to post an update to LinkedIn?
Answer: The best response on LinkedIn means timing your post for early morning (6 to 9AM), lunch time (1-3pm) or after-work (5 to 8pm).
Question: How often should I post updates to LinkedIn?
Answer: You should post at least once a day to LinkedIn, but don’t overdo it. Post strategically and don’t repeat yourself in this business environment.
Question: What’s the best way to add images to my profiles?
Answer: If you do not have photo editing tools like PhotoShop you can use a free online tool PicMonkey (picmonkey.com).
Question: How do I shorten a URL?
Answer: To shorten a URL you can use a bity.ly . Set up an account at bitly.com and start shortening and tracking links to see who is clicking on your links. Now instead of a long URL always use your bitly. Remember, bitly has valuable analytics.
Question: How can I keep my competitors from seeing my connections?
Answer: Do not connect with competitors and adjust your settings so that only you can see your connections. Make these change in the “settings” area (see Figure 1).
Question: What if I am in a group that is not relevant to my business? How can I leave this group?
Answer: Click on the icon that says MEMBER and you will be able to leave the group (see Figure 2).
